About
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” ~Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy
Hi All . . .My name is Barry Sarner and I’m a recovering self-made millionaire and a serial entrepreneur.
I was raised in a public housing project in a neighborhod called East New York that is located in Brooklyn, New York
My desires and dreams were ignited by the fear of poverty and the love for, and need to protect my mom and sister.
At the age of fifteen my father walked out on our family never to be seen again until almost 30 years later when I spent a few days with him as he lay on his death bed.
My Dad was not much of a Father even when he was home. A taxi driver who worked nights, my Dad was a womanizer and an obsessive gambler. His money went everywhere but to the family.
We received threatening telephone calls from bill collectors that said to me (a 10 year old kid) that if my mother didn’t pay the bills they would take away our furniture. We had ( the real deal) Shylocks coming to our home to collect money for my Dad’s gambling debts, and my mom was always hard pressed to pay the rent.
At age 13 I promised myself that I would make sure that my mom and sister would never have to be in this position ever again.
My mom, Norma, being a very strong woman, went to work when I was 10 years old. The majority of Mothers at that time (1962) were stay at home moms. At thirteen, I started to work to help my mom. Later, to help out on a larger scale, I found fulltime work while in high school and that set me on the road to what was to be a very successful business career.
Today, I truly believe in the words of Napolean Hill, “Whatever you truly believe you can absolutely achieve”. I‘ve been there, done that . . . I lived it . There was never a doubt in my mind that I would succeed even though my reality was sometimes crushing, fearful and full of sadness.
Two very special things got me through the pain . . . My sense of humor, and most important of all, the Love and support of my Mother and Grandmother. The love and support from this dynamic duo enabled me to develop a very high level of self confidence, which in turn, gave me the strength to march through any adversity that would come along in my life.
I am convinced, truly convinced, that this is absolutely, positively the number one prerequisite for achieving success in your personal and professional life ……and that is to be endowed with an effective, loyal SUCCESS SUPPORT NETWORK. You need to be with people who GET YOU and GET IT !!!
Having that one or more person or persons in your life that will be there to scream in your ear “YES YOU CAN” and crawl with you over the finish line when you are weary and want to give up, will make up for anything you feel you lack in experience or knowledge. . . . . It is the Mother of all Equalizers.
I have over 30 years of experience building large ladies apparel manufacturing companies. I gave back most of what I made and now I’m starting to rebuild, thus the “recovering self-made millionaire” tag. At the age of 58 years old I’m starting all over again.
I would like to invite you to join me on my journey. I will fill you in more about myself as we travel along together.
I will tell you how I made my money and how I gave it back. I will discuss how I’m rebuilding . . . mentally ,
professionally and personally. I hope that we could share stories and learn from each other.
“It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. . .” Allan Cohen
I’m looking to not only rebuild my professioal situation and personal situation but I need, really need, to make a difference in the world. I want to “Change my world” and at the same time “Change the World” one small step at a time.
I believe that “CHANGE” and changes in our lives are more or less a second chance for all of us. It’s another opportunity to move in another direction and keep moving until we find what will make us get out of the bed in the morning. Understanding “CHANGE” gives us the power to make our journey with confidence and hope. Understanding that you actually can make it happen can be immensely empowering.
“While earning your daily bread, be sure you share a slice with those less fortunate.” ~Quoted in P.S. I love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
It’s ok to care about ourselves and aspire to great things but it is not ok to NOT help others. Join me and let’s help ourselves and change the world. My Blog will be about you and me. It will be about how we can help ourselves and still make a difference in the world. It will be about personal and professional development. It will be about what action we will take to help people, animals, children, the environment and any other world situation that needs our help.
It’s about how we will move forward together one step at a time and show the world the power of . . . . .
Change By The People.
Best wishes now and forever
Barry
